November 5k Handicap.

Let’s face it, marshalling the Handicap is the easy option, watching others run their hearts out, trying to improve their times. Different in the winter, where standing around for half an hour or so brings its own challenges. It was certainly cold.

Eleven plucky runners arrived wrapped up to do their best over the 2 ½ lap course. As they ran and warmed up, we were treated to discarded tops, gloves etc, thrown toward us as they ran past.

Andy C was running the Handicap for the first time, and set a very decent qualifying time of 24.08. A time that made him the quickest runner of the evening.

The handicap run itself turned out to be one of the closest we have ever had, and it was a challenge identifying the individuals in the dark, and recording their times. Andy R, who stormed round, knocking over 90 seconds of last month’s time, and Veronica, were only four seconds apart. The next four runners, Hadley, Jackie, Jane and Sue all separated by just 5 seconds. Michelle also set a new PB, and Lucy returned to her consistent 26 minute time. Pippa just missed out on a new PB, but still managed to be second quickest of the night.

Many thanks to all that took part, and to Sandra, Steve, Colin, Simon and Mark W for marshalling on such a chilly evening.
